Destiny Bay Wines People

Destiny Bay Wines

Destiny Bay Wines occupy a northerly facing amphitheatre on the south side of Waiheke Island. A combination of gently contoured slopes, cracking clay soils and meticulous winemaking creates an ideal environment for the crafting of delicately balanced and distinctive Bordeaux-style Cabernet blends.

Destiny Bay produces the brands Magna Praemia, Mystae and Destinae. All three are Bordeaux blends (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot).

One To Try

Magna Praemia. Dominated by deep press fractions of Cabernet Sauvignon, it is reminiscent of a "Left Bank" Bordeaux-style wine. Optimum balance and character are achieved through the addition of free-run and press fractions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. Fine, dense tannins give this wine great structure and long-term ageing potential. The name Magna Praemia is latin for "great rewards".

This wine is New Zealand's most expensive and highest rated by an international wine critic; Anthony Dias Blue, Editor-in-Chief of The Tasting Panel gave the 2007 Magna Praemia a 98/100.
